Wisconsin Tribs Still Producing Fish - Area Water Still Liquid

Area angler John D. shared these with me last week as he hit the river in the midst of a real cold snap. Swinging flies in low water temperatures can be real tough fishing. These fish look great John! Thanks for sharing.

Fish metabolisms slow, making them a lot less likely to move aggressively to your fly. Improve your odds by  fishing with the right density tip and fly type for the water you are two-stepping through. All of the best casting work in the world will mean little if your fly is racing across the run or pool just an inch below the surface. In the higher water temperatures of early Fall and late Spring, fish will certainly slam this sort of presentation. But this time of year matching tips, poly leaders and fly weight to depth and speed of current is crucial.

  1. I have to agree on slowing the swing in these temps but the browns out there seem to disagree. Took a few today with hard hits on fast swung flies. Go figure? Maybe they're better insulated!
